Canvas Workspace

The Canvas Workspace is your creative hub in ComicVerse, designed to provide a professional comic creation experience with an intuitive, distraction-free interface. Whether you're sketching on iPhone or creating detailed artwork on iPad, the workspace adapts to your device and creative needs.

Canvas Overview

2:3 aspect ratio canvas (comic book standard) with up to 100 undo/redo steps. White background, scales to fit your device screen. Optimized for Apple Pencil and touch input.

Interface

Main Canvas

Central drawing area with minimal UI distractions, optimized for Apple Pencil and touch input.

Floating Toolbar

Quick access to all drawing tools. Swipe left/right to reposition between screen edges. Tap to expand/collapse.

Contains:

  • 7 drawing tools in 2-column grid
  • 3 brush presets (Pencil tool)
  • 10 colors in 5-column grid
  • Width slider (1-20pt for Pencil/Eraser)
  • Font size slider (8-48pt for Text tool)

Panel Template Bar

Floating panel with 6 layout templates (None, Single, Two horizontal/vertical, Three top split, Four grid). Swipeable positioning like toolbar.

Top Navigation

  • Left: Back button (editing) or Profile avatar (new project)
  • Center: Autosave indicator (orange dot = unsaved, green checkmark = saved, timestamp)
  • Right: Menu (save, export, clear, go to projects)

Drawing Tools

Select - Reposition Elements

Tap text elements to select, then drag to reposition. Drawing strokes cannot be moved individually (only text is movable currently).

Pencil - Freehand Drawing

Draw with customizable width (1-20pt), color (10 options), and opacity. Three brush presets: Thin (2pt), Default (3pt), Thick (12pt). Supports Apple Pencil pressure and tilt on iPad.

Use for: Character linework, panel content, sketching details Tip: Thin brushes for precision, thick for bold work, low opacity for construction lines

Eraser - Remove Strokes

Adjustable width (1-20pt) with circular preview showing exact eraser area. Erases complete strokes that intersect with the eraser path.

Use for: Correcting mistakes, cleaning unwanted AI artifacts, creating negative space

Text - Add Dialogue and Captions

Adjustable font size (8-48pt) and color (10 options). Tap canvas to place text, use select tool to reposition. Tap existing text to edit. Text automatically wraps at canvas width.

Use for: Scene descriptions, dialogue, speech bubbles, sound effects, captions Note: Cannot rotate or resize after creation—delete and recreate if needed

Line - Draw Straight Lines

Touch starting point and drag to endpoint. Uses current brush width (1-20pt) and color. Supports fill option.

Use for: Panel borders, perspective lines, motion effects, architectural elements

Ellipse - Draw Circles and Ovals

Touch center point and drag outward to set size. Supports filled or outline mode with adjustable stroke width and color.

Use for: Speech bubbles, character heads, circular objects, spotlight effects

Rectangle - Draw Squares and Rectangles

Touch one corner and drag to opposite corner. Supports filled or outline mode with adjustable stroke width and color.

Use for: Panel borders, caption boxes, buildings, screens, frame elements

Brush Options

Presets: Thin (2pt), Default (3pt), Thick (12pt) - optimized for fine details, general work, and bold strokes Width Slider: 1-20pt for Pencil and Eraser tools Colors: 10 predefined (Black, Red, Blue, Green, Orange, Purple, Yellow, Brown, Cyan, Gray) Opacity: Adjustable transparency for layered effects

Panel Templates

6 layout options for structuring your comic pages:

  • None: Full-page illustrations, covers, splash pages
  • Single: One panel covering entire page
  • Two Horizontal: Side-by-side panels for parallel action
  • Two Vertical: Stacked panels for time progression
  • Three Top Split: Two small top panels, one large bottom panel
  • Four Grid: 2×2 arrangement for rapid sequences

Tap template toggle, select layout. Borders are non-destructive guides—draw within or across them. Toggle visibility anytime. Change templates without losing artwork.

Autosave

Work saves automatically. Status indicator shows: Orange dot (unsaved changes), Green checkmark (recently saved), Timestamp (when last saved).

Access via ellipsis icon (top-right):

  • Save: Name project and add tags (first save), then updates instantly
  • Export: PNG or JPEG at high resolution, includes visible elements and panel borders
  • Clear Canvas: Removes all elements (cannot be undone—confirmation required)
  • Go to Projects: Returns to Projects view (prompts to save if needed)

Troubleshooting

  • Canvas Laggy: Reduce brush width, clear elements, close background apps, restart app
  • Eraser Not Working: Verify eraser tool selected, check width matches stroke size
  • Text Won't Move: Use Select tool (not Text tool), tap text first, then drag
  • Can't Find Project: Use "Go to Projects" menu, search by title/tags
  • Toolbar Hidden: Tap toggle button, try swiping to switch sides, restart if needed
